We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Safety Advisor to join our team at our Capcoal Open Cut operation in Middlemount.

As the Safety Advisor, you will partner closely with operational leaders to ensure critical risks are identified, assessed, and effectively controlled, while maintaining compliance with legislative, regulatory, and company requirements.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Partner with operational leaders to identify, assess, and manage site risks, ensuring effective control of material and critical risks
  • Lead and facilitate risk assessments, incident investigations, and risk reviews to drive continuous improvement and organisational learning
  • Coordinate and maintain site risk, compliance, and assurance frameworks, ensuring alignment with legislative, regulatory, and company requirements
  • Develop and deliver assurance activities including audits, inspections, and critical control verifications to evaluate risk control effectiveness
  • Provide expert advice on risk management, compliance obligations, and Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) requirements
  • Coach and support leaders in the application of risk management processes, critical controls, and governance practices
  • Monitor emerging risks, analyse risk and incident trends, and provide insights and recommendations to site leadership
  • Drive a positive safety culture through visible leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous improvement
  • An undergraduate qualification (Bachelor / Honours degree or equivalent) in a relevant disciple such as Safety is highly desirable
  • Previous experience working in a Coal Mine is regarded, as well as an understanding of the QLD Coal Mining Legislation
  • Have a current Manual Drivers Licence
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint, Isometrics (or other Safety system) and relevant compliance registers, such as “Environment Essentials”
  •  Knowledge of safety policies, procedures and the important role of consistently demonstrating required behaviours and championing safety values
  • Ability to influence others, and drive affective communication with relevant site stakeholders
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, but also be a self-starter who is great with time management and completing work autonomously
  • Permanent, full-time position at Capcoal Mine, Middlemount QLD
  • Monday to Friday site role with the potential for a 9-day fortnight
