The Opportunity:
As a participant in the Gold Fields Vacation Student Program, you will gain valuable exposure to the day-to-day operations of a leading mining business. Throughout the Summer, you’ll work alongside experienced technical professionals, developing practical skills and firsthand insight into the gold mining industry. The program provides a unique opportunity to apply the knowledge gained through your university studies in a real-world setting, while building the technical, professional, and problem-solving capabilities needed for a successful career. Through meaningful project involvement and on-site experience, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of mining operations and the role your discipline plays in delivering safe and sustainable outcomes.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Current driver’s licence (ideally manual license or with desire to obtain it in the future)
- In progress of completing your Tertiary Qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar (second year or above)
- Ability to obtain a National Police Clearance
- Comfortable working 12 hour shifts in remote locations on a fly in, fly out roster
About the Role:
- Gain hands-on exposure to electrical maintenance and asset management activities supporting the reliability of fixed plant, power distribution, and mobile equipment infrastructure.
- Support electrical compliance including inspections, testing, and documentation in accordance with relevant Australian standards.
- Participate in engineering projects involving the design, installation, or modification of electrical systems from scoping and specification through to commissioning and handover.
- Observe and contribute to electrical safety management practices, including hazard identification, isolation procedures, and safe work method development.
- Work alongside experienced engineers, supervisors, and tradespeople building professional networks and understand how multidisciplinary teams deliver safe and efficient outcomes on site.
