Otraco

Otraco provides onsite tyre management services to mining operations and describes itself as the world's leading off-the-road (OTR) tyre management company. Founded in 1972 by Basil Winterbourn, it is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Bridgestone Mining Solutions Australia. The company employs more than 600 people and serves upwards of 40 mining operations across Australia, New Zealand, Chile and Southern Africa.

Work centres on the maintenance, inspection and management of OTR tyres at the mine site, supported by in-house engineering and software capability. Otraco develops its own specialised tooling - more than 35 tools to date - designed to address specific tyre management problems encountered on site. It also runs OTRACOM, a proprietary real-time software platform that provides data-driven insights for tyre management, alongside mining equipment engineering and data analytics functions.

Safety-first practices are a stated priority, supported by a training centre in Western Australia that develops capability and reinforces safe working methods. The company describes its approach as combining hands-on expertise with technology to help clients increase productivity and reduce total tyre ownership costs. Field-based roles typically involve rostered, fly-in fly-out or drive-in drive-out arrangements at mine sites within its operating regions.
