SGS is seeking a Coal Technician (Relief) to join our team supporting multiple onsite laboratories across the Bowen Basin, QLD. In this role, you'll receive training across various sites and provide coverage where needed, ensuring the accurate collection, preparation, and analysis of coal samples in accordance with site requirements and Australian and International standards.

About the Role
As a Coal Technician, you will play an important role in ensuring the timely and accurate sampling, preparation, testing, and reporting of coal samples. You will help maintain high standards of quality, safety, and operational efficiency across multiple sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect, prepare, analyse, store, and report coal samples in accordance with approved procedures and standards.
- Ensure accuracy, precision, and traceability of all sample preparation and testing activities.
- Assist with preventative maintenance of laboratory and sample preparation equipment.
- Plan shift workflows and coordinate sample collection and analysis activities.
- Maintain accurate records and communicate effectively with incoming and outgoing shifts.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
- Identify and report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly.
- Support routine and project-based sampling and testing activities.
- Participate in housekeeping and site maintenance activities to maintain a clean, safe, and professional working environment.
- Travel and work across various SGS laboratory sites as business needs require.
About You
We're looking for a reliable and adaptable team player who can work independently and maintain high standards in a fast-paced environment.
Skills & Experience
- Experience in coal sampling, preparation, and testing is highly regarded but not essential.
- Previous experience in a mineral, coal, or general laboratory environment is advantageous.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong communication skills and proven reliability.
- Comfortable working in varying environmental conditions, including heat, dust, and cold weather.
Qualifications & Licences
- Standard 11 (required).
- Open Australian Manual Driver's Licence preferred.
- S123 and G2 tickets advantageous but not essential.
